Trip to York and Edinburgh

My cousin and her mom are in the UK for 3 weeks so we decided to visit York and Edinburgh.

On Wednesday, 16 April 2014, we caught the East Coast train to York from King's Cross station. It's about a 2.5 hour trip. We stayed at the Hampton, which was a very nice hotel close to the station. We walked around the quaint little town of York, along their pretty cobble-stoned roads. We had a delicious Cream Tea at Patisserie Valerie. Saw the York Minster and the old city walls. We also saw Clifford's Tower.

On Thursday 17 April 2014, we went to the National Railway Museum and saw a lot of trains including the Mallard which is the world's fastest steam locomotive (the blue and black train below)

We then headed to the station to catch the train to the Edinburgh Waveley station. We had great luck with the weather. So we walked around. Checked into the Castle View Guesthouse which had amazing views of the Edinburgh Castle.

Our pub supper at The Kenilworth along Rose Street.

The restaurant which Athol and I had eaten at on our honeymoon was unfortunately closed due to a fire. I remember that they had delicious curly fries!

On Friday 18 April 2014, after having a full Scottish breakfast (with a potatoe scone!) we went on the Majestic bus tour. We hopped off at the Royal Botanical Gardens which apparently has the largest chinese rain forest outside of China! This is a lovely park with so many beautiful flowers, trees, a pond, benches, etc.

The bus went past the coast. Funny I don't really think if Edinburgh as a coastal town :) but it is.

We then caught the 12:50 train back to Kings Cross which is a 5.5 hour trip. Great weather!
